Michaela Wilkerson

Michaela Wilkerson was born in Fairfax, VA but grew up in Amissville, VA and started working as animal care in a small farm shelter at age 18. By age 19 she was working with dog trainers, trapping feral cats for TNR programs and learned that her real passion was for the rehabilitation for shelter animals. She specializes in fearful or fractious dogs and cats that do not like to be handled.
Michaela attended as many educational seminars that were available with veterinary care including training and handling for fearful dogs. She continues her studies online to achieve her license as a Veterinary Technician through Penn Foster College.
While currently working with Piedmont Small Animal, she is also still working with a local shelter, Middleburg Humane Foundation, to rehabilitate and re-home shelter pets.
Michaela temporarily moved to Louisiana, while her husband Michael of 13 years attended welding school.  She moved back to Virginia to pick up where she left off with veterinary medicine and shelter pets. Once settled back in VA she went on to achieve certifications in Disaster Relief for Sheltering Animals and Crisis Relief for Animal Shelters. She has been working in an animal shelter and specializing in Shelter Medicine for 11 years.  While wanting to expand her education she was excited to join the team with Piedmont Small Animal to continue her education of Veterinary Medicine.
Michaela has two daughters, Savannah and Allie, two dogs, six cats and 13 fish that live happily together in a log cabin in the woods in her home town of Amissville. In her free time she enjoys working in the yard, playing guitar, spending time with family and drawing.
