From Dr. Renee Nolan-
Regarding the FDA notice posted below

September 2018

No medication is perfect for every pet. Here are some facts to consider regarding the recent reports of neurological side effects from the flea and tick preventatives NexGard and Simparica.

The actual reported number of dogs experiencing side effects from NexGard is 1 in 10,000. The majority of which are gastrointestinal disturbances, dry flaky skin, and lethargy. Seizure or neurological side effects are rare.

Tick disease is not rare. Last year, 1 in 16 dogs tested positive for Lyme disease. This year, Virginia is expected to be among the highest states for cases of the tick disease Ehrlichia.

We feel that NexGard and Simparica are important tools to keep your dogs and, secondarily, yourself and your family protected against tick disease.

Two hundred million doses of NexGard have been sold. The formulation has not changed. Any medication can cause side effects and any problem you observe should be discussed with us. We are committed to helping you make the best decisions and to document and report any drug side effects from any medication.

Don’t hesitate to call us at 540-364-4954 if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
