Dr. Rebecca Bacon was born in Portsmouth, VA and lived in the DC metro area until middle school when her family moved to Fayetteville, NC. A school friend introduced her to horseback riding in the 7th grade and since then there has been no turning back. She rode, trained, and competed in eventing and dressage and dabbled in driving, though she most enjoys training youngsters. Dr. Bacon earned a B.S. in Biology from The College of William and Mary and earned her DVM from North Carolina State University. She has explored many fields of veterinary medicine including wildlife medicine, research and laboratory animal medicine but has always returned to equine medicine.
Dr. Bacon’s special interests include lameness, opthalmology, and surgery. During her year with Piedmont Equine she hopes to improve her lameness diagnostic skills and is considering pursuing a surgical residency following her internship. Dr. Bacon loves exploring the outdoors and will take every opportunity to get on a horse, even for a simple trail ride. Dr. Bacon is glad to be back in Virginia where she feels most at home and is enjoying being a part of this community with her husband Bryan and her dog Chief.
