Dr. Katharine Sharon grew up in a horse-oriented family in Landenberg, PA. She was an avid horse racing – both flat and steeplechase racing – fan from an early age, but did not start riding until she was 12 years old. From then on, she always worked on horse farms and spent her summers in college preparing yearlings for sale, galloping race horses, and working with mares and foals. With aspirations of becoming a turf writer, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Penn State University and worked for a variety of publications, including Thoroughbred Daily News and Steeplechase Times. Recently, she received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, where she worked as a student technician in the large animal hospital.
Katharine’s veterinary interests include lameness, diagnostic imaging and emergency medicine. She hopes to improve her ultrasound and lameness diagnostic skills, and to gain a wealth of experience in general equine medicine while at Piedmont Equine. When not at the clinic, Katharine can be found exploring her new home and enjoying the outdoors.
