Dr. Jena Porto grew up in a small town outside Pittsburgh, PA. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences with an Equine Science minor from Penn State University in State College, PA. While in State College, she worked on a quarter horse breeding farm that raised and trained for western pleasure, reining, and halter. Dr. Porto attended the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. While in Ithaca, she worked as a technician in the large animal neonatal intensive care unit and large animal surgery. Dr. Porto also served as the fundraising of the student chapter of AVMA and treasurer of the student chapter of AAEP.
Dr. Porto enjoys all aspects of equine medicine, but she is especially interested in reproduction, neonatology, and lameness. During her internship at Piedmont Equine, she improved her lameness diagnosis skills and gained experience in all forms of veterinary care including emergency medicine. Dr. Porto lives in The Plains with her husband and enjoys jogging, hiking and swimming with her Weimeraner, Daphne.
