All of us at the Piedmont Equine family are heartbroken to tell you that Dr. Katy Krista was in a fatal car accident on Friday, January 5th 2018. Katy will be deeply missed by all of us and all that knew her. We will work everyday to honor her memory.

Kathryn was born in Wichita, KS and developed a strong interest in horses from an early age. A family friend bought her her first riding lesson at age 9 and she was hooked. She spent the remainder childhood and teenage years riding and showing in a variety of disciplines.
Dr. Krista graduated from Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. She then entered equine ambulatory practice in Shelbyville, KY where she was an associate veterinarian for 4 years. She then spent 1 year in Brandon, FL, at Surgi-Care Center for Horses, where she performed emergency ambulatory duties and assisted in the clinic. In 2008, Dr. Krista moved to Leesburg, VA to complete an internship in equine surgery and emergency care and subsequently had the opportunity to pursue residency training in equine surgery. During this time, Dr. Krista earned a Master of Science degree.
Dr. Krista is currently an ambulatory veterinarian with The Piedmont Equine Practice. She enjoys all facets of equine veterinary medicine; areas of particular interest include emergency care, gastroenterology and geriatric horses. Dr. Krista became certified in equine veterinary acupuncture by the Chi Institute in the spring of 2017, and looks forward to treating horses with this modality.
Dr. Krista and her husband Ben live in Bloomfield. She enjoys spending time with her husband and their dog, Henry, a Scottish terrier, as well as their 2 horses, Milton and Harry.
