Therapeutic Laser Treatments

Our fairly recent acquisition of a therapeutic laser has given us another choice to consider as the primary or supportive treatment for a variety of medical diseases. The laser produces a high intensity beam of polarized light at the infrared and near infrared range of the electromagnetic spectrum. We are able to adjust the power of the beam and thereby control how deeply it penetrates into the tissue. The benefits of these treatments include faster healing of wounds, relief of pain associated with a variety of causes and decreased inflammation and itching.

The scheduled frequency of these treatments depends on the severity and the condition being treated. For example, back pain or arthritic pain might follow a plan of two treatments weekly for 3 weeks for a total of six treatments with a follow-up treatment every 1 to 3 months thereafter. This can greatly reduce or even eliminate the amount of drugs necessary to control your pet’s chronic pain.

Other conditions that respond well to laser treatments include:

  • Lick Granuloma
  • Ear infections
  • Gingivitis (gum disease)
  • Strained muscle, tendon or ligament
  • Slow healing wounds
