Is your pet’s health at risk due to tooth decay and periodontal disease? With special February discounts being offered, now is the time to find out.
The Port Hope Veterinary Hospital wants to make pet owners aware of the important role that dental care plays in their pet’s health and longevity – and the clinic is offering complimentary dental exams and discounted dental procedures in February as an incentive.
Periodontal disease (inflammation of the tissues surrounding the teeth) is present in 70-85% of pets by early middle age. Untreated, periodontal disease is painful and can lead to other health problems such as heart, liver and kidney disease. Many pets require periodic dental scaling and polishing to keep their teeth and gums healthy. Veterinary dentistry includes the cleaning, adjustment, filing, extraction, or repair of your pets’ teeth and all other aspects of oral health care.
Port Hope Veterinary Hospital owner/veterinarian Dr. Kris Young, says “Dental treatment for pets has really evolved, our clinic offers services very similar to what you’d expect if you went to a dentist. We use dental x-rays to investigate broken, discoloured or missing teeth, and to evaluate periodontal disease.. Dental x-rays are important because studies show that without them, disease is missed in up to 75% of the time.”
During the month of February, the Port Hope Veterinary Hospital will be offering: complimentary dental exams, free teeth brushing demos – plus special discounts on dental procedures.
The cost of dental care varies from pet to pet and is affected by many factors such as age, species (cat vs dog), amount of tartar, and need for extractions. Old age and/or the presence of another disease does not immediately exclude a pet from anesthetic procedures and dentistry. Special protocols can be used to improve anesthetic safety.
Each dentistry procedure performed at Port Hope Veterinary Hospital will come with a free kit containing toothpaste, water additive and dental food to help reduce future tartar on your dog or cat’s teeth.
