In partnership with Eco-Cell, we are collecting used handheld electronics (cell phones, MP3 players, handheld games, e-readers) year round. Recycling old cell phones is a way for us to do something very simple that can help protect the gorillas in Congo.
By reusing phones and other handheld electronics, we help reduce the demand for Coltan, an ore used in phones and other electronic devices. Coltan is mined primarily in the Democratic Republic of the Congo where habitat critical for the survival of endangered species, including the Eastern Lowland Gorilla, is being destroyed.
The proper recycling of the collected used phones and other electronics also helps safeguard our own environment by keeping toxic materials out of landfills and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. All you have to do is discontinue service on your old devices, perform a “factory reset”, and drop them off at either of our locations.
