Dr. Jason McLeod

Veterinarian

Education: University of Guelph (B.Sc/ Masters) University of British Columbia (B.Sc.), Ontario Veterinary College (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine)

Dr McLeod was born and raised in London, Ontario. His love of all forms of life was apparent from childhood and his family all knew he would one day follow his passion and become a veterinarian. He attended both the University of Guelph and the University of British Columbia for both undergraduate and post-graduate studies in zoology, physiology and marine biology prior to graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2001.

Dr McLeod’s research involved studies from the Arctic, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and took him to fascinating places such as the East and West Coasts of Canada, the Caribbean Sea and Australia. During this time, he was awarded the Geraldine Dodge Foundation Fellowship for studies advancing the ethical and humane treatment of animals.

Since coming to Muskoka in 2001, Dr McLeod continues to strive to improve the state of veterinary care to the area. Initially in 2003, he purchased Algonquin Animal Hospital (in Huntsville) and then Bracebridge Animal Hospital in 2005.

In 2010, the doors opened on the highly acclaimed and anticipated Bracebridge Animal Hospital. This hospital was recognized for multiple advancements in architecture and design aspects not seen in most primary care veterinary hospitals anywhere in Canada.

Continuing with efforts to offer clients a standard of care not seen prior, Huntsville Animal Hospital was acquired in 2013 and a massive endeavor was undertaken to amalgamate the two Huntsville practices into one state-of-the-art facility that mirrors that of the Bracebridge Animal Hospital. Again, the new Huntsville Animal Hospital facility, which opened its doors in the spring of 2014, was highly acclaimed and has been recognized as setting-the-bar for veterinary practices in Ontario.

Dr McLeod acknowledges the importance of a team effort toward veterinary care and the importance of having an informed and educated staff that can deliver services in a compassionate and caring manner. He has been a guest speaker at multiple functions to discuss strategies for business success and veterinary excellence, including speaking to the graduating classes at the Ontario Veterinary College. He has continued to be extremely proud of his entire Muskoka team for consistently being recognized for their stellar service and compassionate care for Muskoka pets and their owners.
