About Our South Reno Veterinary Hospital!

Reno veterinary care!

Galena Veterinary Hospital (GVH) has existed since January 1999, and was started by Dr. Julie Soule. She saw a growing need in South Reno for quality veterinary services. South Reno was starting to blossom with new developments and needs. It was placed in what is now considered the Double Diamond Development, and at the time South Reno was known more as Galena, and thus, the name Galena Veterinary Hospital. For the next two and a half years she slowly grew the hospital’s clientele with the help of Dr. Christine Feleciano. In 2001, Dr. Soule and Feleciano were both called to Oregon for family moves. Dr. Michael Ford and Wendi Ford, LVT joined the team in July 2001, first as the managing veterinarian and hospital director and then in December 2003 as owners.

The doctors and staff have continued what Dr. Soule started since inception. GVH provides numerous services, including physical examinations, surgeries, sevoflurane gas anesthesia, dentistry, radiology, in-house laboratory (as well as access to a complete list of laboratory tests through a regional laboratory), technologically advanced monitoring of patients, preventative medical programs, vaccinations and a pharmacy. GVH is always striving to improve the opportunities for advanced services with knowledge of the newest procedures and the purchase of new technology. All of these services are provided with compassion for the patient, excellent customer service to the client, a sense of integrity from our staff, and the medical knowledge that you would expect for your family member.

Appointments are scheduled every 30 to 45 minutes and surgeries and dentals are performed Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. GVH makes every attempt to prevent long wait times, but emergencies do not happen around a doctor’s schedule. If your animal has an emergency, please give us a call and then bring your animal down immediately. We will quickly assess your animal and if needed fit treatment into our schedule. Please note, there will be an additional emergency fee in these cases.

In case of an after-hours emergency, please call the Animal Emergency Center, where a licensed veterinarian is always on staff. Their phone number is (775) 851-3600.

We strive to maintain a safe environment for all animals and people that come into the hospital. To this end, we ask that clients have their animals either on a leash or in a pet carrier. GVH is lucky to have so many wonderful pet citizens come through our door, but anxiety is not just reserved for humans at the doctor’s office. Anxiety in a different environment, contact with unknown animals, and the occasional “bad apple” means that for the client and pet’s safety, the pet needs to be restrained while in the hospital. Along these same lines, GVH will do what is necessary to keep staff members safe. So as the situation dictates, muzzles, cat bags, drug sedation and other restraint techniques will be used to keep pets and staff safe during assessment and treatment.
