Frequently Asked Questions

How long does dog grooming usually take?

This depends on the breed, but if the hair needs to be cut, we ask that you allow three hours to wash, dry and cut the hair. If the hair is matted, it may take more time. If there is no scissoring, it generally takes less time.

Do you bathe the dog first?

To get an even cut, the hair needs to be clean, so we always bathe the dog as part of grooming.

What is hand stripping?

Hand stripping is a professional service where our groomers pull the dead hair out of the coat of non-shedding dogs.

My dog’s hair is matted. Do I need to cut the hair short?

If the hair is allowed to knot or develop ‘matts’, this can be unhealthy for the dog’s skin. Before washing the dog, it is necessary to brush out all knots. If the hair is matted, it may be possible to de-matt the coat, but unfortunately, this can be painful.  We may need to charge more for heavily matted hair. If the hair is so badly matted, we may recommend cutting the hair short. If skin disease is present, our vets will need to address it.

We can help you get some of that time back, taking the hassle out of bringing your pet to the practice and waiting around. We offer a day-time admission service so you can drop your pet off at our clinic and run errands while we check up on your pet.

Our clients may use the drop-off service for routine veterinary services including:

By

For your convenience, we offer an in-house pharmacy so we can meet all your pet’s needs. We provide medications, flea and tick control products, and heartworm preventives—all at competitive prices. We’ll also pass along any discounts or rebates from drug manufacturers.

When you order from us, you’ll know that the products you’re purchasing have been stored properly and are approved for use in the US, Canada and the Bahamas. And if you have any questions, you can ask one of our veterinarians.

Medicine prescriptions

(medicine dispensed by an outside pharmacy)

We offer prescriptions for your pets’ medical needs where we do not stock the medicines required. Our veterinarians can prescribe medicines for your pets under our care that have been seen by us within the previous three months.

When we have not seen your pets in the previous three months, we will need you to make an appointment for your pet to be seen by our veterinarians before they issue prescriptions.

Medicine refills

We can refill medications dispensed for your pets’ healthcare needs. Depending on the circumstances, we may require that you make an appointment for our veterinarians to see your pet before dispensing refills.

We are unable to accept returned medicines after they have left our premises. Please properly check all drugs dispensed to you before leaving the clinic.

Feel free to pick up your pet’s prescriptions at our clinic or order refills online.

Microchip Pet Identification

By

Imagine if your dog or cat got lost. You’d want to give him or her the best chance of getting home. With microchipping, you can.

Microchipping is a safe, permanent way to identify your pet in case he or she becomes lost. A microchip, which is a tiny device about the size and shape of a grain of rice, is placed just under the loose skin at the back of the neck. When a lost dog or cat without an ID tag is found, a veterinarian or veterinary technician will use a handheld microchip scanner to check for a chip. If the pet has one, it will transmit its ID number to the scanner via a low-frequency radio wave. The veterinary hospital or shelter then calls the chip manufacturer, retrieves the pet owner’s contact information, and calls the owner.

Even the most responsible pet owners can’t always guarantee their pet won’t get lost. A leash could break or slip out of your hand, a pet could push through a screen door or window, or a contractor or friend might accidentally leave a door or gate open.

We recommend that you use a microchip, along with a collar and ID tag, to identify your pet. An ID tag is still a reliable identification method. Pets that have tags with current contact information are more likely to not end up in shelters and tend to get home faster than those without tags. However, collars and ID tags aren’t permanent and can be removed (overnight or for grooming); pets can also lose them. With a microchip, your pet will have a much better chance of being identified and returned to you. Pets without microchips that end up in shelters may be adopted out to another family or even euthanized.

Please contact us to schedule an appointment to microchip your pet. Although we hope your pet never becomes lost, we want you to be prepared. We can also suggest a plan to have in place so if your pet does go missing, you’ll be able to act quickly.

We can microchip ferrets, rabbits, birds, and other companion animals, too!

We want you to know that your pet is in good hands with our veterinary team.
